About Polanski Speckstein

All of our soapstone artifacts come from Tabaka / Kisii. The quite soft natural stone is worked 100% by hand - beaten, carved, sanded, polished and sometimes also painted. We work on site with 26 producers, who in turn pass their orders on to the mostly independent carvers / artists. The color of the stone varies between white, gray, yellowish and reddish shades and is mostly interspersed with different grains. This makes each product unique due to its shape and color. I am on site in Tabaka 3 times a year. During this time it can happen that the order is delivered with a little delay. Unsere Specksteinkunstartikel stammen ausnahmslos aus Tabaka/Kisii. Der recht weiche Naturstein wird dabei zu 100% mit der Hand bearbeitet - geschlagen, geschnitzt, geschliffen, poliert und teilweise auch bemalt. Wir arbeiten vor Ort mit 26 Produzenten zusammen, die wiederum ihre Aufträge an die zumeist selbstständigen Schnitzer/Künstler weitergeben. Die Farbe des Steins variiert zwischen weißen, grauen, gelblichen und rötlichen Farbtönen und ist zumeist von unterschiedlichen Maserungen durchzogen. Dadurch wird jedes Produkt aufgrund von Form und Farbe zum Unikat. 3mal im Jahr befinde ich mich vor Ort in Tabaka. In dieser Zeit kann es passieren, dass die Bestellung mit etwas Verspätung ausgeliefert wird.
