401 Elephant small - soapstone
Information
The production is a truly artisanal process. The raw material is first extracted from the local quarries, after which the artists go to work with simple tools such as chisels, knives and sandpaper. The finishing, such as washing and polishing, is often done by women in the family. Each elephant is therefore unique in shape and appearance.

All of our soapstone artifacts come from Tabaka / Kisii. The quite soft natural stone is worked 100% by hand - beaten, carved, sanded, polished and sometimes also painted. We work on site with 26 producers, who in turn pass their orders on to the mostly independent carvers / artists. The color of the stone varies between white, gray, yellowish and reddish shades and is mostly interspersed with different grains. This makes each product unique due to its shape and color. I am on site in Tabaka 3 times a year. During this time it can happen that the order is delivered with a little delay.
