This beautiful owl is made of Kisii soapstone, a soft natural stone found in Tabaka, Kenya. The color varies from white to gray, yellow and reddish tones, often with beautiful veins. The statue is hand-sculpted by a local artist using simple tools such as chisel and sandpaper. The finishing touches, such as washing and polishing, are usually done by women in the family. Each piece is unique due to this manual production.

All of our soapstone artifacts come from Tabaka / Kisii. The quite soft natural stone is worked 100% by hand - beaten, carved, sanded, polished and sometimes also painted. We work on site with 26 producers, who in turn pass their orders on to the mostly independent carvers / artists. The color of the stone varies between white, gray, yellowish and reddish shades and is mostly interspersed with different grains. This makes each product unique due to its shape and color. I am on site in Tabaka 3 times a year. During this time it can happen that the order is delivered with a little delay.
