The Sustainable People

As a student, our founder Arne noticed almost 100 dog waste bags lying on the side of the road in 2013 while jogging around Hamburg’s green spaces and canals over a distance of approx. 5 km. Shocked by the sheer number of plastic bags, the desire arose to solve this problem and reduce the negative impact of plastic on the environment. In the same year, Arne developed biodegradable dog waste bags for cities and municipalities, together with a Swiss company. This makes him one of the world’s pioneers in this area. In 2016, he founded The Sustainable People.

The Sustainable People is a manufacturer of eco-friendly designed innovative everyday products in the areas of pet supplies, garbage disposal and packaging. Together with our customers, we help to reduce the environmental impact of plastic. Our core range includes dog waste bags and garbage bags made of different materials and in different sizes. We also offer suitable accessories. In order to keep the environmental impact of plastic as low as possible, we pursue the following approach: the materials used are made of certified home-compostable, bio-based or recycled / recyclable plastic in order to save resources and protect the environment.

In 2015, we started with the “Poop Bag Map” what is probably the largest study to date on the subject of poop bags in the environment. This was an interactive map in which users could enter the places where they found dog waste bags in the environment. With this environmental project, we were able to reach over 7 million contacts through reporting in various media and thus contribute significantly to raising public awareness of the problem. This consists in the fact that the bags usually used consist of approx. 90 % conventional plastic. Fatal and much more problematic than with shopping bags: dog owners understandably like to walk their dog in green spaces or by the water - where it is particularly painful when the bags are released into the environment.

In 2016, The Sustainable People GmbH was founded. Since then, our young company has developed rapidly. Many of our B2C products are already available in hundreds of shops and inspire our environmentally conscious customers.
