This is how Merula came about - About us A story with heart and period from the Rheinhessen Gau-Odernheim It was 2011 when Merle-Marie Forstmann first heard about the principle of the menstrual cup. Her first cup was quickly obtained. And although this did not yet work perfectly for them, the advantages over the well-known methods clearly outweighed it. less garbage. Higher capacity. More comfort. However, the menstrual cup did not just remain a useful period product for Merle, but quickly became her research object and her passion: In the following years, Merle dealt intensively with the topic of the "menstrual cup". From 2014 to 2016, she advised menstruating women on choosing the right cups and how to use them. The next step: Merle became an inventor. As the quintessence of all the wishes and ideas that were mentioned in the consultations, the idea of a menstrual cup was formed that should fit as many people as possible, save the tedious prior measurement and consultation and be visually appealing (bye, clinical white pads!). The idea for the Merula Cup was born (lat. "Merula" = German "Blackbird" = French "Merle"). Almost a year passed from the first simple sketch to the finished product. Because Merle kept getting feedback from the menstruators. At the beginning of February 2017, the first Merula Cups went on sale. Barely three months later, André Eichhorn joined the company as an equal partner. Together they organized the move to a small warehouse with a warehouse office. The rapid success of Merula resulted in the second move within a calendar year. The storage and office space has been increased by 6 times! In addition, in 2019 we were the first manufacturers of menstrual cups to advertise on TV in Germany, reaching an audience of millions. What originally began as a small sole proprietorship now offers eight jobs in the Rhenish-Hessian municipality of Gau-Odernheim between Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern. The test results of the trade journal "ÖKO-TEST" also show that many things are going right at Merula. Our Merula Cups have already been scrutinized twice. In issue 04/2020 it was the Merula Cup strawberry (pink) and in issue 04/2022 the Merula Cup galaxy (violet). Both times the test result was: VERY GOOD.
