About HP Interior Nordic
HP Interior Nordic ApS sells classic new designer furniture with a 160-year history
We all know it. The classic and timeless café chair or wiener chair that we have all tried to sit in while enjoying a cup of coffee or a light lunch.
- But few people realise that it's a chair with a history dating back to 1861, and very few know that it originated in the Czech Republic, says Hana Andersen, one half of the company HP Interior Nordic in Ravnkilde.
She herself has a pair of Viennese chairs dating back to 1890 that she bought at an auction, and they still hold up in their original condition.
The manufacturer is named TON after the Czech Michael Thonet, who started producing furniture 160 years ago in a small town in the east of what is now the Czech Republic. At that time it was called the Austro-Hungarian Empire. To help him, he had his five sons, plenty of steam, moulds and strong hands to bend the wood, turning it into a beautiful and timeless design that has stood the test of time and continues to do so, explains Hana Andersen.
The factory is still in the same town and today produces a wide range of modern designer furniture. Production now involves several factories, but the original technique of steam, moulds and hand power still applies. That is why the chairs in a series are not exactly identical. Today, of course, more modern designs of the classics are being worked on, as well as new designs.
