The Concept: The concept of Befold is simple. A flat steel plate is folded by the consumer into a spatial product. The folding is facilitated by clever cutouts that create fold lines. But what makes this concept so exceptional? With production comprising just two steps—cutting the steel and applying the coating—the cost remains low, even though all products are manufactured in the Netherlands. Another cost-contributing factor is the product's flat-packaging capability. This minimizes packaging material, enhancing storage and shipping efficiency. The use of high-quality, recyclable materials, combined with a timeless design and packaging efficiency, renders this concept an environmentally conscious choice. Lastly, the act of folding the product by oneself offers a unique consumer experience. About Befold: Befold was established in 2021 by Stefan Delemarre. In the quest for a steel version of a floating wall shelf, the innovative idea of folding the steel to minimize the shelf's hanging element was born. After extensive calculations and testing, this idea proved viable and scalable into a comprehensive interior range. The journey began with the first order of 100 shelves, a test to gauge market interest. Now, two years later, Befold shelves grace various European stores and homes worldwide.
