Davis, born in 1944, is a famous black American revolutionary, political activist, professor at the University of California, "soldier of freedom", warrior for equality and the best known communist in the country, with ties with the Black Panther Party. In 1969, then Governor Ronald Reagan let her fire from UCLA because of her communist beliefs. A year later, one of her weapons was used to kill a judge. After 16 months in prison and worldwide protests, all charges were withdrawn against her and she was released. She traveled to the Soviet Union, where she was welcomed as a heroine. Since then she has taught, spoken and written, especially against American prisons, but more generally about race and women's rights.
