About Wallace Hume
Wallace Hume was founded by two friends with a shared passion for minimalist watches and unique easily interchangeable perlon braided watch straps. It started with one goal in mind: to make different colors perlon straps an unmistakable part of every watch collection. We now ship our watches and straps all over the world and thousands of people enjoy the minimalist style of our Wallace Hume Watch. Enjoy and enjoy life, Wallace Hume.
OUR STORY
Our project started with a focus on watch straps. We wanted something unique, something stylish that combines with every outfit and suits every occasion. We wanted something different from the "regular" leather and NATO straps, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and design our own straps.
PERLON STRAP DESIGN
During our research, we came across a special type of material called perlon, which was perfect for the design of our straps. The material, a type of nylon, can be woven into a strap that is stylish, durable, and also looks great in combination with a minimalist watch.
WATCH DESIGN
With the design of the straps behind us, we were able to get started designing our watches. We wanted a watch that emphasized the colors of our colorful perlon straps, but stood on its own at the same time. Again, we approached many suppliers and found one who shared our belief in minimalist designs and could meet our high standards. Together with them we have created The Perfect Minimalist Watch.
WALLACE HUME
During our research we became more and more fascinated with the history of perlon and synthetic fibers. This is how we got to the story of Wallace Hume Carothers, the almost-forgotten inventor of nylon.
Wallace Hume Carothers was born on April 27, 1896 in Burlington, Iowa. In his early years it was soon clear that he would become a brilliant chemist. After several positions in academia, he was hired by the Dupont Company, where he invented the world's first synthetic fiber; nylon. With this invention, the door was opened to a myriad of new possibilities. We felt this brilliant mind deserved to be honored and named our brand after him.
THE ENJOYMENT OF LIFE
Wallace Hume's story has two sides. On the one hand, he was a truly brilliant man, a great inventor, but on the other, like many inventors, Wallace could not enjoy his own invention or appreciate his own achievements. The lesson we learned from this was that you have to learn to cherish every moment, even the little things that life has to offer. We felt that Wallace Hume should be more than just a brand name, so we looked for a symbol that represents the sense of appreciation of every moment, a totem that reminds us to enjoy every second of every hour of every day. The hummingbird, a symbol of playfulness and pleasure in life ("Enjoyment of Life"), was the embodiment of the character of our brand.
