Biodegradable Dog Waste Bags in Dispenser Box (160 bags/box)
Information
Our biodegradable dog waste bags are compostable in accordance with EN 13432 and are additionally OK compost HOME certified: biodegradability is tested at 20–30 °C, i.e. at significantly lower temperatures than in industrial composting and within the range of natural ambient temperatures. How quickly microorganisms actually break down the bag in nature depends on the local conditions. Compared with other bioplastics, our biodegradable dog waste bags are characterised by a high degradation rate at low ambient temperatures.
Plant-based
Our biodegradable poop bags are made with around 30% renewable raw materials, which are currently obtained from maize. The bags are biodegradable in accordance with OK compost HOME – tested at 20–30 °C. This also applies to the petroleum-based component: it has a chemical structure that can be broken down by enzymes and microorganisms and converted into CO₂, water and biomass – similarly to the plant-based components. In addition, our biodegradable dog waste bags contain no plasticisers, no polyethylene and no genetically modified substances.
Safe use & excellent handling
With a thickness of 18 micrometres, our biodegradable poop bags are pleasantly thick, opaque, tear-proof and moisture-resistant. This and the extra large size (23 x 38 cm) make it easy and safe to dispose of dog faeces. They are also characterised by a very pleasant feel and excellent tear-off perforation. The bags are particularly easy to open. The handles make knotting easier and transport to the nearest bin more convenient. The dispenser format allows the bags to be removed conveniently and as required.
FSC®-certified packaging material
The packaging (boxes) used for our biodegradable dog waste bags are all made from FSC-certified material. The core of the roll and the stickers that hold the big roll together are made of cardboard and paper respectively.
Correct disposal
In principle, poop bags - including our biodegradable ones - should always be disposed of in accordance with local disposal regulations. As a rule, they should be disposed of in residual waste with subsequent thermal utilisation due to the possible presence of pathogens in the dog faeces. When disposed of with residual waste and incinerated, our bioplastic has another advantage over bags made from virgin PE: the plant-based component only releases the CO₂ that the plants previously absorbed from the atmosphere while growing. This component therefore does not generate additional fossil CO₂.
Attention - not made for eternity!
To ensure the best material properties, we recommend using our biodegradable poop bags within one year of the production date. They will not disintegrate after this time, but may become slightly more brittle/fragile over time, depending on environmental conditions and storage. The biodegradability of our dog waste bags can, under certain conditions such as direct sunlight, high temperatures or high humidity, cause the material properties to be affected during storage.
Ideally, our biodegradable poop bags should be stored in a dry, cool place (at room temperature at most) and out of direct sunlight. We deliberately refrain from using a best-before date in order to avoid unnecessary waste of material, as correctly stored bags are often still fully functional up to 1.5 years after the production date. Nevertheless, we generally recommend using them within one year of the production date. In our experience, this period is absolutely sufficient in the vast majority of cases.
Why are biodegradable dog waste bags needed?
We regularly carry out clean-up campaigns in the countryside, during which we have already found and disposed of thousands of poop bags made of conventional plastic (PE). As these are not biodegradable, unlike dog faeces itself, they can pose a major plastic waste problem for decades or even centuries. Folded, unused bags are also found time and again, which have obviously been unintentionally released into the environment. Unfortunately, many poop bags are also wilfully disposed of in nature.
We see their biodegradability as an airbag: not a licence for improper disposal, but an additional safeguard if a bag does end up in the environment. Under suitable conditions, it can then be broken down by microorganisms.

As a student, our founder Arne noticed almost 100 dog waste bags lying on the side of the road in 2013 while jogging around Hamburg’s green spaces and canals over a distance of approx. 5 km. Shocked by the sheer number of plastic bags, the desire arose to solve this problem and reduce the negative impact of plastic on the environment. In the same year, Arne developed biodegradable dog waste bags for cities and municipalities, together with a Swiss company. This makes him one of the world’s pioneers in this area. In 2016, he founded The Sustainable People. The Sustainable People is a manufacturer of eco-friendly designed innovative everyday products in the areas of pet supplies, garbage disposal and packaging. Together with our customers, we help to reduce the environmental impact of plastic. Our core range includes dog waste bags and garbage bags made of different materials and in different sizes. We also offer suitable accessories. In order to keep the environmental impact of plastic as low as possible, we pursue the following approach: the materials used are made of certified home-compostable, bio-based or recycled / recyclable plastic in order to save resources and protect the environment. The diverse range of The Sustainable People includes: • Home Compostable Poop Bags • Poop Bags made from recycled material (PE) • Garbage Bags made from recycled material (PE) • Treat Bags • Poop Bag Dispensers In 2015, we started with the “Poop Bag Map” what is probably the largest study to date on the subject of poop bags in the environment. This was an interactive map in which users could enter the places where they found dog waste bags in the environment. With this environmental project, we were able to reach over 7 million contacts through reporting in various media and thus contribute significantly to raising public awareness of the problem. This consists in the fact that the bags usually used consist of approx. 90 % conventional plastic. Fatal and much more problematic than with shopping bags: dog owners understandably like to walk their dog in green spaces or by the water - where it is particularly painful when the bags are released into the environment. In 2016, The Sustainable People GmbH was founded. Since then, our young company has developed rapidly. Many of our B2C products are already available in hundreds of shops and inspire our environmentally conscious customers.
