This elegant bronze statue is a unique work of art by the Burkinabe artist Issouf Ouedraogo. The sculpture depicts abstract human figures in various poses and colors, including red, blue, turquoise and green.
Working with bronze is a traditional craft in Burkina Faso. The bronze alloy consists of various compositions of copper, zinc, lead and tin, depending on the specific composition. Nowadays, the bronze is recycled from old fixtures, such as taps and air conditioning parts.
The artist begins by making a wax model, which is then covered with a mixture of clay and manure and dried. The mold is then heated, causing the wax to melt and disappear. The molten alloy is then poured into the mold and takes the place of the wax. After cooling, the mold is removed to allow the final finishing touches to be applied to the sculpture. Each piece is unique and reflects the artist's creative vision.
