It is part of the triclinic crystal system. It forms from the crystallization of gas and incandescent materials inside volcanic chimneys. The larimar stone is sky blue in color, veined with white. Miguel MENDEZ gave it the name larimar which combines the first name of his daughter Larissa and the word mar which means sea in Spanish. The larimar stone was classified as a semi-precious stone in 1979. Today, it is used in jewelry, in the making of jewelry such as necklaces, rings and even bracelets.
