I spend the rest of the break solving arguments, sticking plasters, watching children's tricks and listening to the stories the children would like to tell. The rest of the day is uneventful. The children listen carefully to the instructions and continue working well. We end the day with the best part of the day, namely reading aloud. The children listen very attentively and can't wait to hear the rest of the story tomorrow. At 2 p.m. the children go home with new knowledge, skills and a smile. As a teacher you are actually also a psychologist, nurse, police officer and administrative assistant. As a teacher, it is not just our job to teach children things that fit that one grade level. But we analyze, identify and act to ensure that all children feel seen, valued and matter.

De rest van de pauze ben ik bezig met ruzies oplossen, pleisters plakken, trucjes van kinderen bekijken en luisteren naar de verhalen die de kinderen graag willen vertellen. De rest van de dag verloopt rustig. De kinderen luisteren goed naar de instructie en werken goed door. We eindigen de dag met het leukste stukje van de dag, namelijk voorlezen. De kinderen luisteren erg aandachtig en kunnen niet wachten om morgen het vervolg van het verhaal te horen. Om 14.00 uur gaan de kinderen met nieuwe kennis, vaardigheden en een glimlach naar huis. Als juf ben je dus eigenlijk ook psycholoog, verpleger, politieagent en administratief medewerker. Als leerkracht is het niet alleen onze taak om kinderen dingen te leren die passen bij dat ene leerjaar. Maar wij analyseren, signaleren en handelen om er voor te zorgen dat alle kinderen het gevoel krijgen dat ze gezien worden, zich gewaardeerd voelen en er toe doen.
