Like “Dinner for One,” Mulligatawny also comes from Great Britain, but its roots lie much further east: in South Indian cuisine. Known there as a spicy vegetarian soup, in Victorian England it became a welcome guest at dinner parties and receptions in a milder version. Little drop of mulligatawny soup, Miss Sophie? So beginnt das wohl berühmteste Dinner der Fernsehgeschichte – und mit ihm der Auftritt einer Suppe, die längst selbst ein zeitloser Klassiker ist. Wie „Dinner for One“ stammt auch Mulligatawny aus Großbritannien, doch ihre Wurzeln liegen viel weiter östlich: in der südindischen Küche. Dort als scharfe vegetarische Suppe bekannt, wurde sie im viktorianischen England in einer milderen Variante zum gern gesehenen Gast auf Dinnerpartys und Empfängen. A few years ago I had to think about what I wanted to do with my sociology degree. During this time I discovered my passion for cooking, especially Levantine cuisine. When preparing the dishes, I noticed that I was always missing one or two spices. At the same time, my collection of spices grew, although I already suspected that some of them would disappear in the spice drawer after only one use. For a trip with friends to a mountain hut, we packed a box with various spice packs so we could cook fresh every day - of course that was way too much. On site, at the foot of the mountains, I thought to myself: Wouldn't it be much easier if you only took the amount of spices you needed for each dish? And so the idea of the seasoning took off... Since we were founded in 2014, Schuster's spice factory has been produced by the Kaspar Hauser Foundation: all of our spices are bottled in the recognized workshop for people with disabilities.
