What is plastic to us today has been birch bark for many indigenous cultures for centuries. Inspired by this ancient craft, we set out to combine the many valuable properties of this natural material with the demands of a contemporary, sustainable way of life. sagaan offers ecological containers for plastic-free storage of food as well as untreated birch bark for hobby and craft for further processing. Our vision sagaan's vision is to support networks between existing organizations and activities and to help people on their way to free expression and social development. We think that only such a social model can be sustainable and we believe that doing business with social and ecological responsibility is a benefit for everyone involved. With our economic activity, we not only want to give social institutions the chance to create beautiful and meaningful products for ourselves and to receive fair remuneration for them. Rather, we also see our task in social work by supporting ideas and projects and thus promoting a common idea. This is a lengthy process and can only be done in small steps. Here we are dependent on the help of everyone involved. Sagaan dared to take a first step in 2005 when we set up a manufacture for traditional birch bark products in the therapeutic therapy facility “Istok”. Today the birch cans that sagaan sells are made here and in other small family businesses. In addition to societal responsibility, sagaan also wants to operate in an ecologically sustainable manner. The taiga is the largest forest belt in the world and thus the lungs of the blue planet. Overexploitation and destruction are particularly serious here. We pay attention to sustainable forest management and develop criteria for the use of our raw materials.
