The easy -care, one -year blue lampion flower is extremely fast -growing, shows its blossoms after just a few weeks and reaches up to two meters in the garden or bucket. First, from June to September, it shows hundreds of bell -like, two to four centimeters in size, light blue on a white base. Later, the captual berry forms similar balloon-shaped, parchment-like fruit spots, which enclose the fruit and seeds for the new or self-sowing in the coming year.

Zunächst zeigt sie von Juni bis September hunderte von glockenartigen, zwei bis vier Zentimeter großen, hellblau auf weißem Grund gefärbte Blüten. Später bilden sich der Kapstachelbeere ähnelnde ballonförmige, pergamentartige Fruchtkelche, die die Frucht und Samen für die Neu- bzw. Selbstaussaat im kommenden Jahr umschließen.
