Hibiscus is a shrub from the Malvaceae family; there are more than 30,000 varieties. Hibiscus sabdariffa also called "Guinea Sorrel", "Roselle", or even "Karkadé" is a flower native to tropical areas. Consumed for millennia in West Africa and Egypt, it is the plant most often used to make hibiscus infusions and various traditional drinks. Its red flowers, dried and then infused, are used to prepare bissap, a fresh and sweet drink (often combined with mint) very popular in West Africa. Bissap juice contains micronutrients essential to our body: a high content of minerals (calcium, iron) and vitamins (B2, B3, C).
