Kat & is opgericht door Laura & Melissa uit Utrecht, Nederland. Beiden zijn afgestudeerd aan de kunstacademie en hebben een achtergrond in communicatie en grafisch ontwerp. Daarnaast hebben ze een andere gedeelde liefde: katten! Toen die twee passies samenvielen, ontstond Kat &: een merk vol kattenideeën. Laura en Melissa ontwerpen zelf alle producten, en in sommige gevallen produceren ze ook zelf.
