Nei bei cortili di Palazzo Rosa si coltivano da sempre le rose antiche perché sono belle, perché sono nello stemma e nel cognome della famiglia. Ma fu nel diciassettesimo secolo che Luis de la Rose sposò Geneviève du Puy per le sue virtù che in realtà non includevano la bellezza effimera. Ma Geneviève - poco più che una bambina - attratta dal colorato cinorrodo (il finto frutto della rosa) ha cercato di passarselo tra le mani trovando immediato sollievo. Ebbe così la geniale intuizione di estrarre un olio "miracoloso" che in poco tempo (tre mesi lunari) la guarì dalle dermatiti, donandole quella bellezza del viso che non aveva mai avuto. La ricetta è stata tramandata di generazione in generazione fino all'Unità d'Italia. Con l'Unità d'Italia, le rose moderne, con quei petali colorati, con quei boccioli ricchi e gonfi, con quei profumi celestiali che accarezzano tutti i sensi delle donne di famiglia, entrano in Palazzo Rosa. Carlo Rosa, ultimo erede della Casa, decide di non disperdere questo antico sapere e trova un alleato nel suo caro amico Eduardo Guarneschella, famoso amante della cosmesi naturale e biologica.
